Joy D. Calloway, President & CEO Black Women’s Health Imperative
Joy D. Calloway, MBA, MHSA, is a transformational leader with more than 30 years of health care and nonprofit leadership experience. She is widely recognized for her ability to guide organizations through times of change, serving as a stabilizing force and setting them on a path toward long-term success.
Calloway was named President & CEO of the Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) in 2025, bringing her vision and expertise to the only national nonprofit working to solve the most pressing health issues affecting Black women and girls. Prior to joining BWHI, she served as Executive Director of the National Medical Association (NMA). A sought-after consultant and speaker, Calloway has shared her expertise with audiences around the world on issues including mental health, emotional intelligence, nonprofit governance, and operational strategy. Her leadership has been recognized with numerous honors, including induction into the Michigan Chronicle’s Women of Excellence and the American Businesswomen’s Association “Boss of the Year” Award. She is also a 2024 graduate of the Leadership Greater Washington Signature Program. Over the years, she has served on the boards of national and local nonprofit organizations addressing issues ranging from youth development and community programs to gun violence prevention and support for girls expriencing homelessness.
