About the event

Trauma STARs is a comprehensive, one-day trauma-informed care certification designed to help professionals recognize the impact of trauma and respond in ways that promote safety, trust, engagement, and resilience.

Participants will explore the differences between stress and trauma, types of trauma, trauma responses, and the effects of trauma on the brain, body, behavior, and development. The training will address trauma-sensitive communication, creating safe and trusting environments, and reducing the risk of re-traumatization.

Participants will also develop practical skills for recognizing and assessing trauma, asking appropriate questions, identifying signs and behaviors associated with trauma, and selecting appropriate trauma-informed interventions. The course concludes with an examination of secondary traumatic stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue, including risk and protective factors and strategies for sustainable professional self-care.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how trauma affects the brain, body, behavior, and development.
